Mil Mi-8 Helicopter

The Mil Mi-8 is a medium twin-engine utility and transport helicopter of Soviet/Russian origin, widely recognized as one of the most produced and versatile rotary-wing aircraft in history. It is powered by two turboshaft engines mounted on top of the fuselage, providing redundancy and safe flight even if one engine fails. The 5-blade main rotor system combined with a tail rotor ensures stable flight characteristics. Capacity & Payload: The spacious cabin accommodates up to 24–28 fully equipped troops, roughly 12 stretchers for MEDEVAC missions, or an internal payload of up to 4,000 kg. An external cargo sling allows for transporting loads of up to 3,000 kg. Performance: Cruising speed of approximately 225–230 km/h, maximum speed around 250 km/h, with a standard combat radius of about 450–500 km – extendable using auxiliary fuel tanks. Versatility: The "Swiss Army Knife" of helicopters serves both military and civilian roles, including troop transport, tactical insertion, logistical resupply, search and rescue (SAR) missions, and firefighting operations. Armed variants can carry external weapon pylons for unguided rockets, bombs, or anti-tank missiles, adapting efficiently to close air support missions.
