Realistic Exhaust replaces the default exhaust effects with a dynamic smoke model that responds to the engine and weather. Particle color, density, volume, and exit speed are determined by engine load, rpm, throttle position, airflow, turbocharger, engine temperature, and the soot limit, giving every engine its own character.

  • Clearly distinguishes between cold starts, idle, full load, and load changes.
  • Older diesel engines produce heavier smoke under load, while high rpm without load results in nearly clear exhaust.
  • Cold engines emit white or bluish-white smoke that disappears as the engine warms up.
  • Particles age naturally, becoming lighter and thinner over time before gradually dissipating.
  • Wind, warmth, cold, and rain affect smoke direction, turbulence, lifetime, and visibility.
  • Smoke exits directly from the visible exhaust pipe. Particle size and exit speed scale with engine output, multiple exhaust pipes are supported, and hidden or invisible pipes do not produce smoke.

The engine library includes 16 profiles for older and modern diesel engines, petrol engines, naturally aspirated and turbocharged units, precombustion engines, two-stroke engines, methane-powered engines, and small or large machinery. Profiles are assigned automatically based on fuel type, vehicle category, power, model series, production year, and detected emissions technology.

  • Modern diesel engines with AdBlue remain practically smoke-free.
  • Petrol engines do not produce black diesel soot.
  • Motorcycles mainly produce heat haze, while bicycles and electric vehicles emit no exhaust.

A free exhaust profile can be selected in the shop for diesel and methane vehicles. The choice can also be changed in the workshop and is available in multiplayer. A preview demonstrates the selected profile during a brief full-load acceleration.

Engine profiles can be customized in data/engineLibrary.xml. The mod is compatible with vehicles from the base game, DLCs, and other mods, and does not require individual configuration for each vehicle.
