To warn the population of air raids and other dangers in case of failure of the permanently installed air-raid sirens, special mobile air-raid sirens were procured for the LS warning service in the 1950s and 1960s. The trailer itself was supplied by Westfalia, the electrotechnical equipment came from two manufacturers under the names "Helin 52" (Helin GmbH Hagen) and "Kaiser 64" (Kaiser Elektronik, Fürth). The number after the manufacturer's name refers to the year of development.

The designation "SLEA" here stands for "Siren Speaker Single Axle Trailer". The actual siren and a power generator are built into the trailer, which also contains a loudspeaker system (Siemens/Telefunken). The siren and loudspeaker can be operated independently from the towing vehicle via a control unit with connecting cable.

When the warning system is switched off, the power pack can be used as a power generator, e.g. for headlights, and batteries can also be charged via a built-in rectifier. Conversely, the siren and loudspeaker amplifier can also be powered by an external power supply. A total of about 400 of this type of trailer were built.
