(Vanilla | Survival Ready | No DLC | 201 blocks | 2668 PCU)

Dimensions: (Length/Width/Height) 18 (45m) x 13 (32.5m) x 6 (15m)
Mass: 162t (dry mass), 187t (with ice/ammo), 387t (max takeoff mass)

United Worker's Union Aerospace is proud to bring the UAS Tayet to the people! The Tayet is designed for light combat and scouting in any environment, boasting an absurd thrust to mass ratio and turn rate for a large grid ship, backed up by a quad-gatling punch. This light ship is the perfect accompaniment to vessels of any size and an excellent way to learn what's beyond the next horizon, bringing large-grid utility and combat strength in a tiny, efficient package.

A Ship for Every World

Whether it's investigating the next ridge or the next asteroid, this ship is designed to get there quickly, without burning much fuel, and to let you figure out the situation from the comfort of your cockpit. No more relying on your hand drill to find out what's under the surface - just use the built-in Large Grid ore detector! Don't worry about getting your haul back to base, either. This ship is great at bringing things from Point A to Point B, no matter where those points are.

Solves Practical Problems

You're an engineer. You solve practical problems. For instance, some big, mean mother hubbard is sending drones to wipe out your defenseless miner. The answer? Use a gun. Four large grid gatling turrets will ensure obliteration of any small grid threats coming to ruin your day. Want to go after whatever is sending drones at you? Go ahead. This ship is light and agile, a true fighter than can come in from the best angle every time, or spiral around the enemy while using turrets to shred its target.

Built in a Cave, With a Box of Scraps

Optimized to be built extremely early in a survival scenario, this ship needs no gold, silver, platinum, or uranium. The only requirements to build this are a Basic Refinery, a Basic Assembler, and sources of Iron, Nickel, Silicon and Cobalt. The power of Hydrogen, the Miracle Fuel, ensures a vehicle that's lightweight, strong and affordable. Able to handle any sort of gravity just as well as it can handle the vacuum of space, take-off and landing is a breeze when your engines are always 100% efficient!

Features

  • Optimized for fast scouting with a large grid ore detector and nose-mounted camera. The lightweight hull means that it costs just 7% fuel to reach space when loaded, or 3% when empty.
  • 4 small cargo containers and a single connector on the bottom provide 78500L of cargo capacity. Rated surface-to-space grid mass is 387t up to 1.1G (200t cargo).
  • 4 gatling turrets plus a decoy make sure you can come out on top in most engagements and protect smaller ships from drones. Strategic heavy armor blocks and windows are used to reinforce the cockpit, providing first-person visibility and safety while keeping overall mass low.
  • 17 small hydrogen thrusters (4 upward/forward, 3 backward, 2 downward/left/right) and 1 gyroscope give this ship a great thrust to mass ratio and turn rate.
  • 10ML hydrogen capacity (2 large tanks) give you plenty of fuel to work with, and 2 onboard O2/H2 generators powered by a pair of batteries and a hydrogen engine let you refill from available ice sources. No more puttering along at 50m/s between asteroids so you don't have to spend as much fuel to slow back down!

Construction:

This ship was designed to be able to be built early in a survival scenario, without the need for advanced components or resources. This ship was designed to be a cheap and cheerful starter or disposable ship. It's not particularly tough, nor does it carry much cargo, but it's fast and agile plus it carries a large ore detector, and is made to get you to space quickly. While it can be built with only Basic Refineries and Basic Assemblers, doing so will require 30% additional ore due to the Basic Refinery's inefficiency.

Help! I built this but my hotbars are all squares!

Not to worry! The hotbar setup guide has the cockpit hotbar settings used in this blueprint.

Optional Parachute

A suitable position can be found near the tail. To add a parachute:

  • Remove the gyroscope and the angled half block above it, replacing the gyroscope with a parachute facing upward.
  • Remove the half block and full block directly forward of the new parachute.
  • Mount a new gyroscope on the armor block directly between the tanks.
  • Place a 2x1 light armor slope over the gyroscope with facing the tail and paint all blocks as desired.
  • Load parachute canvas and configure the parachute. Don't forget to put it on the hotbar!

What about DLC?

DLC blocks are not used. If desired, replace the programmable block with an armor block or timer block to save PCU!

Flight:

Combat loaded (ice/ammo only): The ship has extremely fast turn rates in general, and superb acceleration in any direction when empty - it can even fly upside down in gravity. When in combat, try to use your agility and camera zoom to figure out where the weakest and least defended part of the enemy is, then come in from that direction. Spiral around the target and let your turrets work. Try to keep the enemy to your front/top in general though, as most armor is there. Your best defense is simply not being hit, and you have the agility to make that happen.

Fully loaded (387t grid mass) flight: To easily take off, clear the pad, then pitch up to 45 degrees. Fly that pitch until the ship is at 100 m/s, then slowly pitch vertical, letting the bottom thrusters brake bring the ship into a vertical climb. When landing in gravity while fully loaded, deceleration on 4 thrusters is extremely slow, around 1.5m/s² in 1g. Tilting the ship upwards 45 degrees so that the bottom and forward thrusters can both participate in slowing down the ship is required to slow down within a reasonable distance (1 km of altitude minimum).

Strongly consider fitting a parachute if unfamiliar with the craft's reentry characteristics when loaded! See instructions in construction section. The parachute should be used only to slow down during reentry and bring the ship under control, not to land - one parachute is not enough to safely touch down unpowered.

Credits/inspiration:

This ship owes much of its shape to another beautiful ship, the Cepheus LX-40 Gazelle. Some other portions of it are based off of my own UAS Bastet, and this really was designed to be a cheap, earlier-game, mini-Bastet.

Feedback:

If you like this ship, please rate it! This helps other people find it and lets me know if I'm releasing good content. If you have any feedback, questions, or just want to let me know what you think, leave a comment! I'm always on the lookout for new optimizations to the design, so if you make any modifications that you think would benefit others, post them here so we can all see it.
