description
Designed by Triton's 601st Heavy Engineering Company, the Mark 4 version of the Orbital Heavy Lifter is a modular heavy cargo and utility ship. The Mark 4 was a rapid replacement for the Mark 3, which had a catastrophic flaw in its O2 tanks.
Designed to operate both in atmospheric cargo and in the surface-to-orbit shuttle roles, the OHL can be configured with a number of different modules using its centerline mounted merge block and connector. The MK4 improves on the venerable MK1 and 2, by adding armour and two pressurised cockpits for transporting support crew.
The Mk 4 retains the Mk2's extended range thanks to its extra hydrogen tanks and O2/H2 generators over the MK1. For even more extended range, there is the External Fuel Tank module ( Spaceengineers.mod.io ) which will also work with the MK1 and 2.
For general cargo, there is both a Hydrogen tanker module ( Spaceengineers.mod.io) and a bulk cargo module ( Spaceengineers.mod.io)
For use as an orbiter, the Hydrogen Ship Dock module is recommended ( Spaceengineers.mod.io), and with this fitted the OHL can carry two of the specifically designed "Bug" support craft ( Spaceengineers.mod.io).
For added utility, the OHL module family now includes an Ion Miner, specifically designed to be moved into place by an OHL and then used as a limited-mobility mining platform. Spaceengineers.mod.io
The OHL has also been designed to carry the component modules for a mobile field base. This consists of any combination of the following modules; mobile garage ( Spaceengineers.mod.io), mobile habitation module ( Spaceengineers.mod.io), and mobile field base ( Spaceengineers.mod.io). These modules (and the cargo modules) are designing to be joined together, either directly or using the Module Connector ( Spaceengineers.mod.io) that is also designed to be carried by the OHL.
It has been found that the OHL is not always capable of operating in close environments, especially around ships and space stations. With this in mind, the smaller Atlas range of lifters was developed, Spaceengineers.mod.io, and for loading and unloading modules from storage, an even smaller Ion Tug Spaceengineers.mod.io
Other modules are in development, including a dedicated passenger module and a mobile battery bank.
